An in-depth guide for buying Solana memecoins by marketcap.

This is just my opinion. It’s what works for me. This will likely become outdated at some point. In the mean time, hope this helps. -Frank

$5K-$20K mostly rugs, a little too early.

99% of these coins will inevitably rug. Most of the pump dot fun coins launched in this range are honeypots, that will sell the entire supply as soon as the first person buys them.

Reasons to buy in this range:
  • You have insider information
  • You get the link from the creator early.
  • You happen to be perfectly at the right time & right place when something big happens on CT & catch it immediately (rare, but possible).
  • You enjoy lighting micro-clips on fire & funding farming bots.

$20K-$69K this is the sweet spot.

This is arguably the best range to buy a coin.

If you play this well, this has been the sweet spot for systematically making profit throughout all of 2024. You have to be fast to catch the best ones.

There’s still a massive risk that the coin rugs, before hitting $69k. You need to get really good at telling when something is a rug.

Reasons to buy in this range:
  • The coin has momentum. It doesn’t need to be a great meme.
  • The top wallet holds ~5% or less & most top holders have no more than 3% each.
  • The lower the % each top holder has, the better.
  • The dev has pre-paid for Dexscreener.
  • Coins can run in this range with just a good ticker, good holder distribution and a Telegram. Website (and even Twitter) isn’t necessary yet.
  • The chart is moving relatively fast.

$70K-$150K the make or break zone.

Every single day, there are dozens of coins that go to $150k, which means current holders are anywhere from 3x-30x. Do current holders believe it’s going higher or lower? While the coin is migrating to Raydium, you’ll have a few minutes to collect information. If there isn’t a sense of euphoria, it’s likely the coin will nuke & go to zero.

This might be one of the only acceptable ranges to top-blast. If you’re not sure, give it a minute or two after trading opens - don’t buy at the exact moment it goes live.
Reasons to buy in this range:
  • The coin graduates from pump.fun really fast.
  • There are people upset that they missed it (future buyers).
  • Volume of buys/sells are high as soon as trading opens.
  • The Telegram is extremely active/excited (high volume of euphoric messages).
  • Most of the top holders have less than 3%.
  • Dev is buying DexScreener ads, paying for trending, burning supply, etc.
  • The meme is funny/relevant.

$200K-$300K where are the new buyers coming from?

This range is brutal. This is when you start running out of purely trench buyers.

At this point, initial buyers are up anywhere from 3x-40x and the project needs to start proving that it can pull in liquidity from the broader CT audience.

This range is where most good (but not great) coins die.
It’s hard to break through this ceiling.

Reasons to buy in this range:
  • Active + high engagement Twitter presence; raids, funny memes, & frequent announcement posts.
  • You find out about it from someone with a strong track record.
  • The meme is based on something already going viral on Twitter.
  • Large holders have already sold without nuking the coin. Most top holders have <1%.
  • Devs are active in the Telegram, rallying the community.
  • Genuinely influential KOLs start interacting & making calls to go higher.
If a coin can blast past $300k, and climbs above $500K quickly, that’s a strong sign. If it starts to get stuck, then you need to start asking yourself where new buyers are going to come in from.

$1M+ is it over or just getting started?

Obviously, coins can go above $1M. The question is… how much higher can this coin go?

You have to be realistic. Even if everyone said the goal was to get to $10M… was the goal to really to get to $1M? Is this just experiencing a blow-off top?

Or did it just breakthrough a key threshold?

The main benefit of larger marketcap coins is that you can buy in size & sell in size. Are bigger buyers going to come & park money in this for a long period of time?

Reasons to buy in this range:
  • A celebrity with millions of followers is involved + you’re catching the news immediately. Ideally this celebrity is a meme or understands memes/internet.
  • The coin wasn’t created a few hours ago. It touched $1M+ earlier, dipped hard and is now recovering because of a new narrative.
  • It’s a fresh take on a currently hot meta (if this meta has already produced a $10M+ coin).
  • It’s a unique take on a pet (cat or dog), with a ton of KOLs/popular accounts tweeting about it.
  • You are getting information from the team/people who hold the biggest wallets.
